Recurve junior teams from the USA and Mexico in the recurve, and Colombia and Mexico in the compound, took Pan American Champion titles in Medellin.

The teams were comprised of two rather than three archers and qualified quota places to the Cali 2021 Junior Pan American Junior Games.

Ashley Kim and Liberty Hofmaster of the USA beat Valentina Vazquez and Akshara Licea of Mexico in straight sets to win the recurve junior women’s team gold, then Monica Leon and Karen Rodriguez of Colombia took bronze.

“I’m very excited this is really a big tournament, and it was just a great opportunity to be here. It was really good communication between both of us and knowing we are confident with each other,” said Liberty.

Mexico’s recurve junior men Jesus Flores and Carlos Vaca climbed the top spot on the podium after beating Carlos Acevedo and Adrian Munoz of Puerto Rico, 6-2.

“I personally feel very happy as I was coming from a day where I didn’t shoot well, but we did what was correct and got the results. I think we go on very well and that helps the team dynamic, we support each other,” said Jesus.

Daniel Hernandez and Juan Jose Molina of Colombia secured bronze in that event.

Both compound junior team titles were taken by Mexican squads.

Sebastian Garcia and Rodrigo Olvera beat Colombia by four, 158-154, to take the men’s title. Ruben Jimenez and Alan Jose Valerio of Dominican Republic won the bronze over Ecuador.

The women’s crown was taken by Dafne Quintero and Mariana Bernal. The pair beat Julia Gallego and Valentina Suarez in a shoot-off, 20 to 18.

“We’re very excited because we’ve been working hard to win this medal. We had to look after each arrows and as we say, it was until the last arrow, until the shoot-off,” said Dafne.

Camila Alvarenga and Paola Corado of El Salvador leave Medellin with bronze.

QUOTA PLACES FOR CALI 2021

The top six compound junior mixed teams in Medellin won one junior men’s and one junior women’s quota places for the Cali 2021 Junior Pan American Games.

The top five recurve junior men’s and women’s teams, exceptionally consisting of two archers rather than three, won two quota places for the respective gender.

The World Archery Americas council decided to award Brazil two recurve team places, one women’s team and one men’s team, as the country was unable to travel to Colombia for the selection event. The council’s decision was based on the archers’ competition level.

The remaining quota places will be awarded on Saturday morning.
