World Archery Americas secretary general Sergio Font visited Ecuador for an inspection visit ahead of the 2021 South American Junior Championships that will take place in Guayaquil on October 4-9.
Font met with Ecuadorian Archery Federation president Guillermo Quiroga and Ecuador’s Olympic Committee president Roberto Ibanez, who both endorse the organization of the event.
“The Ecuador Archery Federation, the country’s National Olympic Committee and local sport authorities are working together to put up a great event for our youth archers. The venue and hotel meet up with our standards and I was very pleased to see such an organized team,” said Font.
The event will take place in a recently refurnished football stadium and will implement comprehensive COVID-19 protocols to ensure its smooth delivery.
Competitions will be held for cadet (under-17) and junior (under-20) archers and both recurve and compound disciplines. So far, 11 countries from the Americas have registered.
The tournament will serve as valuable preparation for the upcoming Cali 2021 Junior Pan American Games.
World Archery Americas is also organizing a judging seminar just before the start of the championships, on October 2-4, which will take place at the National Olympic Committees headquarters.
“Our goal is to empower those who already have a national judge credential to keep learning and become continental judges so that they can serve at all international events, including the Pan American Games,” added Font.
