Profiles by country of the para archers from the Americas competing at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

  • Country: USA
  • Number of archers: Seven

The USA is the largest squad from the Americas in Tokyo. Compound men’s open defending Paralympic Champion Andre Shelby leads the team of seven, five of which have previously competed at the Games. The roster also features experienced internationals Matt ‘The Armless Archer’ Stutzman and Eric Bennett, who took silver and bronze, respectively, at London 2012.

W1 archer Lisa Coryell fought for her life in hospital after heart failure and a COVID-19 infection just months before winning her place for the Games at the Para Pan American Championships in Monterrey.

“I didn’t come back from the dead to not make it to Tokyo. So that has been my motivation for the 10 weeks I was trying to decide whether to live or die,” said Coryell after securing her quota place.

Although debutants at the Games, Emma Rose and Kevin Mather have previously competed at international events, podiuming at the Para Pan American Championships.
