Jason Tabansky of the United States won the gold medal in the w1 men’s category at the second event of the year in the Hyundai World Archery Para Series in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic.

The American defeated Italy’s Maurizio Panella, who had qualified in first place.

High temperatures during the first days of competition, combined with the challenge of regulating his body temperature, caused Tabansky to finish in sixth place in the qualification round, the same ranking he achieved in Paris 2024.

This reminded him of something important his coaches had told him during the Games: “You can not win a medal in qualification, win it in matches.”

With this phrase as his personal motto, the American reached the gold medal final, which he won in the fourth set with a final score of 6-2.

Helcio Luiz Jaime Gomes Perilo of Brazil won the bronze medal in this same category.

Brazil also won two other bronze medals in the individual competitions.

Fabiola Dergovics took third place in the para recurve women’s, and Gustavo Mendes Araujo in the VI 1 category.

In the team competition, Kevin Polish and Ephraim Tonn-Bourg of the United States won the silver medal in the compound doubles.

Brazil also won a silver medal in the team competition in the recurve women’s doubles with Dergovics and Lindiara Souza Weischung.

The competition in Nove Mesto took place from June 29 to July 5. Brazil, Canada, Peru, and the United States were the countries representing the continent at this sporting event.
