Mexican archer Samuel Molina won the gold medal in the para recurve men’s category at the third stage of the Hyundai World Archery Para Series in Ahmedabad, India.
His opponent was Indonesian archer Kholidin, who won the gold medal at the first stage in Bangkok.
Molina started the match by shooting a 7 and losing the first set.
This did not shake his focus, and in the second set he scored 28 points, the same score as his opponent.
In the third set, the Mexican scored 29 points, earning the set points and tying the overall score with Kholidin at 3-3.
In the final two sets of the match, both archers scored the same number of points. The Mexican’s last arrow could have secured an early victory with a 9, but at that moment, nerves got the better of him, and Molina shot an 8 to tie the match, sending it to a shoot-off.
Kholidin was the first to shoot, and his arrow hit the 8, leaving the door open for the Mexican.
Molina, with his nerves on edge and taking a longer shot than usual, managed to hit the 10 and secure the victory.
This was the Mexican’s first appearance in the Para World Series.
The next stage will take place on our continent in Santiago, Chile, from October 14 to 18.
