Alejandra Usquiano of Colombia took her first gold in the Indoor Archery World Series on Sunday by defeating Mexico’s Andrea Maya Becerra 146-143 in the compound women’s final.

“It has really been a great tournament,” commented the Colombian. “Now onwards whatever comes next is going to be much better.”

It was a close match that Usquiano was able to take advantage of in the fourth end, where she took a three-point lead that she held until the end of the match.

Becerra took the silver medal which is also the first medal she has won in the World Series.

James Lutz of the United States took silver in the compound men’s category. His opponent was Mike Schloesser who took the gold by shooting a perfect score of 150.

 

In the recurve men’s category, Marcus D’Almeida of Brazil took the bronze by defeating Great Britain’s Patrick Huston 7-3 in the fifth set.

“This is one of the competitions I have learned the most to deal with pressure”, commented D’Almeida on social media.

The Brazilian shot four perfect scores and a 29 before taking the victory.

“Indoor was never my favorite competition but I’m learning to enjoy it.”

The Indoor World Series Finals will take place in Las Vegas on February 3 and is part of the largest indoor archery event, The Vegas Shoot.
