Denis Castellanos of Argentina and Ava Jones of the United States were crowned the new Pan American barebow champions in Tlaxcala.
Castellanos, who had qualified in second place, faced Michael Weaver of the United States, who topped the qualifiers, for the gold medal in the men’s division.
The closely contested match was decided in the fifth set in favor of Castellanos with a final score of 7 to 3 sets.
Castellanos currently holds both the indoor and outdoor Pan American titles.
Third place went to Binh Tran of the USA, who defeated his compatriot Marcus Cooley in the bronze medal match.
In the barebow women’s event, Ava Jones faced the 2024 Medellin Pan American Champion, Johana Cindy Czako, in the gold medal final.
Jones, 18 years old and the top seed, defeated Czako 7-3.
Elizabeth Howe won the bronze medal against Kay Earls, completing an all-American podium.
