Brazil’s Thiago Pinheiro da Silva and Peru’s Daniela Cecilia Campos Marzano won the gold medal at the Parapan American Championships in the para recurve category.
Pinheiro faced Colombia’s Jairo Fabian Burgos Rincón in one of the most closely contested matches of the competition.
The champion was decided in a shoot-off, and the Brazilian was the first to shoot it.
His arrow landed on the 7, and his chances of winning the gold medal seemed slim.
The surprise came when Burgos also shot a 7.
Pinheiro’s arrow was closer to the center, and he claimed the victory.
Third place in the para recurve men’s category also went to Colombia.
Héctor Julio Ramírez defeated Samuel Molina of Mexico 7 sets to 3.
In the para recurve women’s category, Daniela Campos and Fabiola Dergovics faced off for the gold medal.
In the fifth set, both archers had 4 set points on the overall scoreboard.
Dergovics took the lead in the final set after Campos shot a 6 and a 7 with her first two arrows.
The Brazilian only needed to shoot a 5 to win, but her last arrow landed on the 3.
Campos snatched the victory and improved upon her 2024 result, when she won the bronze medal.
This time, third place went to Colombia’s Maira Alejandra Mosquera Rocha.
Mosquera defeated Brazil’s Lindiara Souza Weischung 6–4.
In the under-21 category, Brazilians Filipe Eduardo Aguiar and Nathalia Nunes De Carvalho won the gold and silver medals, respectively.
In the recurve team events, Colombia won all three gold medals: mixed team, men’s doubles, and women’s doubles.
