American Alexis Ruiz was crowned the compound champion at the Archery World Cup in Saltillo, Mexico, on the 20th anniversary of the world circuit.
The competition took place over the weekend, featuring the top 8 archers of the season in each category.
In the gold medal match, Ruiz faced the crowd favorite, Mexico’s Dafne Quintero.
Quintero started with a one-point lead after shooting a perfect score in the first end, but in the second end, Ruiz turned the score in her favor.
The American’s lead vanished in the third end, and the two archers drew level.
The tie held until the start of the fifth set.
The Mexican archer’s first arrow, which hit the 9, gave Ruiz the lead—a one-point advantage that held until the final arrow.
Ruiz needed to shoot a 10 to win the match, and she certainly did just that.
Alexis Ruiz, who won the Pan American title this year in Tlaxcala, claimed her first World Cup title.
Mexico’s Dafne Quintero took the silver medal, improving on her 2024 result, when she won the bronze.
The compound women’s podium was rounded out by Colombia’s Sara Lopez, who won the bronze medal against Ella Gibson by a single point.
Mexico’s Andrea Maya Becerra finished in fifth place in the rankings.
In the compound men’s category, Mexico’s Rodrigo Gonzalez de Alba and Colombia’s Pablo Gomez Zuluaga faced off for the bronze medal in what would be their first World Cup final.
Gonzalez, who had just won the silver medal at the Central American and Caribbean Games, emerged victorious with a score of 149-147.
Sebastián García of Mexico finished in fifth place in the rankings.
In the recurve category, Mexico’s Alejandra Valencia advanced to the medal finals.
She lost the bronze medal match to Elif Gokkir of Turkey.
Ana Paula Vazquez finished in seventh place, while her teammate Matias Grande finished in sixth place in the rankings.
