The first medals of the Pan American Championships were awarded this day in the team competitions.
In Santiago 2022, for the first time both the barebow men’s and women’s categories participated in this type of competition.
In the barebow men team’s qualification round, the United States team of Marcus Cooley, Rick Stonebraker and Matt Yacca set the record for the Americas with 1846 points. In addition to setting the Pan American record, they also broke the world record, pending confirmation. The German team held the record with 1783 points.
In the gold medal match, the United States faced Argentina. The United States took the victory in the third set 6-0.
The bronze medal was disputed by Chile and Brazil. The match was decided until the fourth set with Brazil winning 6-2.
In the women’s team barebow, the Pan Am record was also set by the United States. The team of Maggie Brensinger, Fawn Girard and Christina Lyons set the mark for the Americas with 1808 points.
In the medal matches, the United States faced Brazil for the gold medal. The Americans won the match in the third set 6-0.
Argentina and Chile faced each other for the bronze medal. After the fourth set, the match was tied at 4 set points and the match was defined with a shoot-off. This was the second time that Chile shot a tiebreaker. The first was the semifinal match against Brazil in which the Brazilians won the ticket for the gold. With a total of 22 points against 18, Argentina took the bronze medal.
For the rest of the categories in the Pan American Championship, the matches went all the way to the bronze medal.
In recurve women, Canada won the bronze against Brazil in a shoot-off with a 29.
In recurve men, the United States won the bronze medal match 5-3 against Chile.
In compound women, the United States took the bronze by defeating the team from El Salvador 234-230.
In compound men, Guatemala and El Salvador faced each other for the bronze medal. Guatemala won the match 229-228.
The gold medals will be disputed on Saturday, November 26.
