Aurora Olea Prado and Andres Aguilar, both from Chile, won gold medals in compound women’s and recurve men’s, respectively, at the first leg of the Grand Prix of the Americas.
The competition took place in San Salvador, El Salvador, from April 15 to 19, with a total of 129 archers from 23 countries.
In the compound women’s final, Olea faced Salvadoran Paola Corado.
From the start of the match, the Chilean took the lead and by the end of the fifth set she had accumulated a four-point advantage for a final score of 140-136.
At 18 years old, this is the Chilean’s first international victory.
Andres Aguilar also faced a Salvadoran in the recurve men’s final, Oscar Ticas.
In the first set, both archers scored the same number of points, but the Chilean took the set points in the second and third.
In the fourth set, Aguilar only needed to match Ticas’ score to secure the victory.
In the recurve women’s final, Ana Maria Rendon of Colombia claimed gold against her teammate Carolina Posada, 6 sets to 2.
Julio Barillas of Guatemala defeated Pablo Gomez of Colombia for first place in the compound men’s division with a near-perfect score of 149 to 145 points.
Both Colombia and El Salvador won two gold medals in the team events.
Guatemala and Puerto Rico won the remaining two team medals.
In addition to the medals awarded for the Grand Prix, San Salvador also allocated 36 spots for the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo.
The next stage of the Grand Prix of the Americas will take place in Santiago, Chile, at the South American Open Championships.
