Jane Karla Gogel of Brazil won her third title in the compound women open event at the Parapan American championships in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

“To be able to bring this medal here, in my beloved Brazil, is incredible,” commented Gogel. “I’m very, very happy.”

The gold medal match was a rematch of the past championship in Santiago between Gogel and Chilean and Paralympic runner-up Mariana Zuñiga.

Gogel started with a one-point lead that grew to four by the end of the fourth end.

Those four points were lost in the last end and both archers tied the match with 136 points.

Both Zuñiga and Gogel shot a 10 on their tie-breaking arrow but Gogel’s was closer to the center and gave her the victory on her home land.

“I tried to focus, concentrate and try to get the technique perfect so it was the best and thank God it was,” said Gogel.

Gogel’s next big goal is to make a great performance at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

“Sport is life, it means a lot to everyone here,” said the Brazilian. “I really enjoy practicing every day and bringing results that inspire me more and more to continue and get to the Paris Paralympics and bring us that medal we dream of.”

Another Brazilian who took the Parapan American title was Reinaldo Charao Ferreira in the compound men’s open.

Charao faced Mexico’s Gerardo Rodriguez and took the victory with a wide margin of difference, 142-133.

“Today we are back with Brazilian representation!” said Charao.

“I came strong, I came very confident and thank God everything went well and we are winning gold for Brazil in the men’s individual, honoring our call to Paris.”

The archery competition at the Paris Paralympic Games will be from August 29 to September 5.
