Mexico, Colombia, the United States and Guatemala earned spots for the Chengdu 2025 World Games during the Pan American Championships in Medellin.

The Pan American Championships were held immediately after the Continental Quota Tournament for the Olympic Games. Two hundred and fifteen archers competed for the continental titles, as well as for team and individual Olympic slots for the World Games. 

Alexis Ruiz of the United States, Dafne Quintero of Mexico and Sara Lopez of Colombia won the slots for their countries in the compound women’s category.

Ruiz and Quintero faced each other for the Pan American title in the final for gold in an interesting match.

Both archers started with a perfect start. Ruiz accumulated advantage points in the following ends that varied throughout the match.

In the last end Ruiz shot two 9s but with the last 10 she took the victory by one point, 146-145.

The final ticket to Chengdu was disputed in the bronze medal match between Lopez and Esmeralda Sanchez of Mexico.

Lopez took the lead from the first set and took the victory 146-141.

 

In the men’s category Sebastian Garcia (Mexico), Jose Marcelo del Cid (Guatemala) and Pablo Gomez (Colombia), won the medals in compound and the quotas for their respective countries for the World Games.

Del Cid and Garcia faced each other in the gold medal match. 

The Mexican started with a one-point lead and a perfect score in the first heat, but the Guatemalan was not far behind and overtook the Mexican in the third shoot.

Garcia closed his group and shot two perfect scores in a row. Del Cid could not match his opponent and lost the match 146-147.

Pablo Gomez and Douglas Nolasco of El Salvador faced off for the bronze and the last available pass to the World Games.

Gomez shot solid with three back-to-back perfects. 

Nolasco shot a perfect in the fourth series that cut the Colombian’s lead to one point after shooting an 8.

The Colombian focused on his shooting and culminated with a perfect score and the ticket to the World Games.

The World Games will be held from August 7-17 in Chengdu, China.
