Peru’s Beatriz Aliaga Hurtado was crowned South American champion for the second consecutive time in the compound women category in Santiago, Chile.
Aliaga faced Brazil’s Larissa Aparecida Ferrari Oliveira in the gold medal match of the South American Championship, which was held in conjunction with the second event of this year’s Grand Prix of the Americas.
From the start of the match, the Peruvian archer built up a lead that, by the end of the fifth end, secured her a comfortable 6-point victory, with a final score of 145-139.
Rogerio Ambrosio De Lima of Brazil won the compound men’s title by defeating Mateo Sebastián Oleas Rodriguez of Ecuador, who had qualified in first place. De Lima also scored 145-139 for a 6-point victory.
In the recurve women’s category, Brazil’s Graziela Paulino dos Santos also claimed the South American title by defeating her teammate Ana Machado 7-1.
In the recurve men’s event, Andrés Aguilar became the local hero by defeating Juan Pablo Peralta Alvarez of Ecuador 6-0.
In the barebow categories, Uruguayans Sara Mediza and Dardo Romero claimed the South American title.
Mediza won the gold medal in the women’s final with a 6-4 set victory over María José Arce of Chile.
Romero also defeated local favorite Felipe Hadad Araneda with a 7-1 set victory.
