USA, Colombia, and Mexico won 11 medals—five, three, and three, respectively—at the opening stage of the Archery World Cup in Puebla, Mexico, which marked the 20th anniversary of the world circuit.
The competition took place from April 7 to 12, with 11 countries from the Americas participating: Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and the USA.
USA won two gold medals in the recurve division: one in the men’s individual final with Brady Ellison, and the second in the men’s team event with Ellison, Christian Stoddard, and Jack Williams.
Ellison also took home a silver medal in the mixed team event alongside Casey Kaufhold.
The compound women’s team, consisting of Alexis Ruiz, Paige Pearce, and Olivia Dean, won the silver medal for the United States.
The last medal for the USA was a bronze in compound mixed team with Ruiz and Stephan Hansen.
Colombia also won two gold medals in this first stage of the World Cup.
Sara Lopez returned to international competition and won the gold medal in the compound women’s event after a one-year break.
The Colombian compound men’s team, consisting of Sebastian Arenas, Pablo Gomez, and Jagdeep Singh, emerged victorious with a historic first-place finish for Colombia.
Colombian Alejandra Usquiano, who qualified in first place, prevailed in the bronze medal match in the compound women’s event against local favorite Dafne Quintero.
Santiago Arcila and Isabella Forero Martinez finished in fourth place in the recurve mixed category.
Mexico won three bronze medals in the team events.
The first medal came in the compound women’s competition with Andrea Becerra, Ana Sofia Hernandez, and Dafne Quintero, followed by the compound men’s team consisting of Sebastian Garcia, Juan del Rio, and Lot Maximo Mendez.
The third bronze medal was in the recurve women’s category with Angela Ruiz, Ana Paula Vazquez, and Alejandra Valencia.
Mexico’s Matias Grande finished fourth in the recurve men’s event.
