The international archery federation, World Archery, named Marcus D’Almeida as the best overall athlete of the year 2023 during the Indoor Archery World Series finals.
The Brazilian and current world number one in the recurve men’s category was crowned World Cup champion for the first time in his sporting career last year at the grand final in Hermosillo, Mexico.
In addition to this great achievement, D’Almeida accumulated in 2023 a gold in the second stage of the World Cup in Shanghai and a bronze in the fourth stage in Paris.
He also reached the podium at the World Championships in Berlin with a bronze medal.
In indoor competitions, D’Almeida finished fifth in the World Series final, but was crowned Vegas Shoot champion in his category.
The Overall Athlete of the Year award is given to the best archer regardless of category and was reintroduced to World Archery’s annual awards from 2022.
